Wood Chipper Work Crew
PAY: $22-25/hr, DOE
START DATE: May 20 and 21, 2023
DURATION: mid-May 2023 to end of June 2023
SCHEDULE: Saturdays and Sundays, 8:30 am-5:00 pm (half an hour for lunch and two 20-minute breaks
LOCATION: Darrington
REPORTS TO: Wood Chipper Crew Lead
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are looking for individuals to assist with running free chipping services to local residents. Most chipping will occur at the Darrington Airport, with possibility of some chipping field days at neighborhoods located within the bounds of the Darrington School District. Chipping will occur every Saturday from mid-May to the end of June with possibility of additional dates and hours depending on crew availability and remaining program funds.
This service is being provided in coordination with the Snohomish Conservation District to reduce air pollution from outdoor burning and create defensible space buffers to reduce wildfire risk.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Work in team of 4-6 individuals to collect brush and woody debris from residents and run through the wood chipper
Collect required information from the residents using the chipper service
Assist residents with loading chipped materials for personal use
Transport chipper to and from chipping locations
Ensure proper maintenance and storage of all equipment
Follow all safety protocols and guidelines
NONESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assist with community outreach about the program as needed
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
No previous experience required. Training will be provided.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Basic English proficiency
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Basic math skills
REASONING ABILITY
Should be able to use good judgment and follow all safety protocols when using equipment
REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift at least 60 pounds
Must be at least 18 years old to apply
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
Must be able to perform physically demanding tasks for the duration of the workday
All work duties will be performed outside regardless of conditions
